Snafflez’ Horsemaker tools were originally designed for helping an indecisive person choose a simple saddle pad for a new horse, and to decide if light oil or dark oil was better suited for sharing between two different coloured horses. Then it was, oh, now we need a show blanket for western pleasure, but what colour would look good?
The Horsemakers have grown to include english, western, and other disciplines’ tack and equipment, coolers and blankets, halters, and a whole mix of horse colours and markings.
You can use it as it was intended: to select a combination of colours and leather that suit the horse. Or you can use it for fun with creating avatars and sigs for forums, user icons and profile pics, greeting cards, stall cards, plan a custom model, horses for sims and RPGs, whatever you want!
Here are the Horsemakers made to date…
Original (English/Western)
A basic set of english and western tack with a representative range of colours of leather tack and of cloth items (boots, wraps, pads). Not as many colours, trim, bling, or details as the others, but that makes it faster loading (and less onerous to scroll through. Start here especially if you are mostly just picking colours (the original purpose of the horsemakers!) or want to mix/match traditionally “english” and “western” tack (says the gal who frequently rides in a dressage saddle with a knotted headstall and split reins, and no, the colours don’t match, but you can make all the horsemakers in the world and it all goes out the window when you’re too lazy to switch bits into the other bridle).
Western Disciplines
More range in colour, trim, and details in western-oriented tack. More designs of headstalls, saddlepads, and accessories. More precision in shades and hues — inspired by common brand names like Weaver, Professional’s Choice, Dale Chavez, Kathy’s, Bob’s Custom Saddles, Billy Cook, Circle Y, Mayatex, Ger-Ryan/Griffiths, and more. Whether it’s just for the trail or casual schooling riding, or for the performance horse in the show pen in reining, western pleasure, horsemanship, cowhorse, or timed events like team penning, barrel racing, pole bending, and other rodeo or gymkhama sports. Western riders take their color schemes very seriously, and take pride in good colour choices to draw the judge’s eye and complement their horse, whether it’s on the rail or around the pattern.
English Disciplines
More browbands, boots, and colours… more of everything! Colours and designs inspired by brands such as Stubben, Passier, Courbette, Devecoux, Pessoa, Can-Pro/Equestar, BR Equestrian, Pink Equine, Lettia, WWOOF, Eskadron, and so many more. While hunters and dressage riders go for conservative colours in the show ring, they can still get colourful and “matchy-matchy” in the lesson or clinic arena, and of course, on hacks, competitive trail, Le Trec, and Pony Club. Jumpers and cross-country eventers get the most out of colours in their own personal, or their barn’s, show colours.
Horsewear
Here’s where you’ll find halters, coolers, and wraps. Typical horsewear for horses trailering and staying at shows, showing off their stable colours. These colours are partially inspired by Weaver, BR, Eskadron, Ger-Ryan (Pleasant Ridge, ON), and Can-Pro (Bahr Saddlery, ON) mostly for the halters and wraps. I can’t promise you can buy all the coolers in these colours without going custom, but there’s a lot of places that will do that! (Nag-Rags, Chapss, and so many more — lots of small businesses do it, so ask around).
Driving Harness
Light and heavy horse harness for carriage driving. You can go conservative colours, like for coach or hackney showing, or add a little — or even a lot — of colour for cross-country or obstacle driving, combined driving, or Le Trec. Or parades, or fun, or showing miniature horses. Harness designs and trim or fleece colours inspired by Zilco, Schmuckers, Brubachers, BR.
Handlers
For showmanship, horsemanship, western pleasure, etc. where western-style show blazers and colourful rail shirts are chosen to emphasize a horse’s colouring and attract the judge’s attention. (very much under construction)
Seasonal
Winter holiday themed dress-up, with jingle bells and antlers, candy cane colours, evergreen wreaths and Christmas tree decorations. What more needs to be said? For the record, yes you can actually by those antlers, and the Santa hat, for your horse … if only I could remember where.
Instructions:
- Select a horse body colour that most closely matches your horse.
- Add white markings to the face, legs, and body.
- Select a mane and tail colour. If you pick mane and tail colours before placings your markings, you may have trouble if you try to then move the markings. To fix this, click on the red X under mane or tail to remove the mane/tail.
- Select tack, equipment, horsewear, whatever and drag it to where you want it on the horse. It helps if you have a mouse with a scroll wheel. Click and hold on the item and use your scrollbutton to drag it to the horse.
- To reset, refresh the page. If you leave the page, all your work will be lost! Save your work before clicking any ads or navigations.
To save your horse picture:
- On a PC (ie. Windows):
- Open a graphics program like Microsoft Paint, IrfanView, PhotoShop, etc. If you don’t have one or can’t find one, IrfanView is a great (free!) program you can download that is very easy to use.
- Come back to your browser and position the finished horse on your screen so you can see all of it.
- Press “Print Screen” — it is usually labelled “PRT SC” or “PRNTSCRN” and is usually in the top right corner of the keyboard. On some keyboards you will need to press the FN or FUNC key at the same time.
- Go to your graphics program and press CTRL-V (paste). Crop out your horse and edit it as you like. Save the image!
- On a Mac:
- Position your horse so you can see all of it.
- On a Mac, there are two ways to capture an image on your screen…
- First option saves the whole screen: press the following three keys at the same time: Apple, Shift, 3. Then click on your screen anywhere with your mouse, and you will hear a camera shutter sound. Go to your desktop and you will see “Picture.png” — there’s your horse! Open the file and crop the horse out from the rest of your screen.
- Second option lets you only save a portion of the screen. Press Apple, shift, 4. Click and drag a box around your horse. When you release the mouse you will hear the camera shutter sound, and the picture will save to your desktop.

This website is the hook and my friends would almost pay me money to know the name of this website I LOVE HORSES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How do you become a Horsemaker/ member of snafflez? I want to so that I can make cool horses and stuff. I want to be able to like make the horse look like it’s grazing or curious. But I can’t!!! I’ve spent hours trying to find out how to log on, but I was obviously unsuccessful. Can anyone help?? =l Plz and Thx!!!!!!
I love snafflez.how long will it be under construction?
Snafflez horsemakers is best horse game ever!!!!! I just cant wait fo it to be updated!!!!!
Hi i totally love the horsemaker and im looking forward to the new changes, particularly to draft horses! I love them!
and thanks for everything!
I’m using this site because it has nearly the same color horse as my Thoroughbred, and the same markings if you use the star blaze with the other star. My mare is competing in competitions with me this year and this was a major help to chose what color halter/blanket would look good. In the comp. I’m entering soon, I get a choice of the (recomended) smaller pad with the English saddle shape, or a full pad. I’m going with the smaller, since it looks better. Wish us luck!
How come you’ve changed this, you used to be able to just make a horse straight away and not have to log in! I liked the old not the new!
i got four horses and this website has horses on it.COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Snafflez is the best online horse dress up game so far, it should be made into a real online game where you can actually create and own your horses. That would be so cool!
